I’d wild-guess the crowd tonight at Moral Monday at around 8,000 strong. The government here in North Carolina right now is crazy, I mean pure evil crazy, but the people? The people are good.
All I could think of when I watched the thousands, and thousands, and thousands of protestors stream off the lawn of the legislature, then under the bridge down Lane Street, then down Salisbury Street towards the State Capitol, was this:
“Here’s to the land of the long leaf pine,
The summer land where the sun doth shine,
Where the weak grow strong, and the strong grow great-
Here’s to Down Home, the Old North State.”
We’ll get through this, North Carolinians, and we’ll find a way to be stronger in the end. Meanwhile, let’s look out for the people who need us. The general assembly has made sure that there will be a lot of them.
